Installation

1. Download the Application

Download The AutoClicker.app.zip file from the download page.

2. Extract the Application

Double-click the .zip file to extract The AutoClicker.app.

3. Move to Applications

Drag The AutoClicker.app to your Applications folder.

4. First Launch

When you first launch the app, macOS may show a security warning. To open it:

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security
  2. Scroll down to Security
  3. Click "Open Anyway" next to The AutoClicker

Gatekeeper Warning

"Apple could not verify..." Message

When you first try to open The AutoClicker, macOS Gatekeeper will show a warning saying "Apple could not verify..." or that the app "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."

This is a standard security measure because the application is not code signed and notarized by Apple. It does NOT mean the application is malware. However, due to this, macOS will prevent it from opening by default.

To successfully run The AutoClicker on your Mac, you MUST manually bypass this Gatekeeper warning the first time you open it. There are two ways to do this:

Method 1: Right-click Open (Recommended)

  1. Open Finder and go to where you saved The AutoClicker.app (usually your Applications folder).
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) on The AutoClicker.app.
  3. Select "Open" from the context menu.
  4. You will see a warning dialog. Click the "Open" button (this option is usually only available when right-clicking).

After doing this once, you should be able to open the app by double-clicking it normally in the future.

Method 2: Using Terminal

This method removes the quarantine attribute added by macOS when you download the file.

  1. Open the Terminal application (found in Applications > Utilities).
  2. Type the following command, but do not press Enter yet:
  3. xattr -d com.apple.quarantine
  4. Drag The AutoClicker.app file from Finder into the Terminal window. This will automatically fill in the correct path to the application.
  5. The command should now look something like this:
  6. xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Your/Applications/The AutoClicker.app
  7. Press Enter.

You should now be able to open the application by double-clicking.

Required Permissions

When you run The AutoClicker for the first time, it attempts to trigger the macOS permission prompts for Accessibility and Input Monitoring. It also adds itself to the list of applications requiring these permissions in System Settings.

If you do not see the prompts automatically, or if you need to manage permissions later, you can do so manually in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Accessibility Permission

The app needs Accessibility permission to control your mouse. To enable it:

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
  2. Find "The AutoClicker" in the list. If it's not there, try launching the app again.
  3. Click the toggle switch next to "The AutoClicker" to enable it. You may need to click the lock icon and enter your password to make changes.

Input Monitoring Permission

The app needs Input Monitoring permission to detect keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys). To enable it:

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring.
  2. Find "The AutoClicker" in the list. If it's not there, try launching the app again.
  3. Click the toggle switch next to "The AutoClicker" to enable it. You may need to click the lock icon and enter your password to make changes.

Using The AutoClicker

Menu Bar Icon

The app runs quietly in your menu bar (top of the screen). Look for the mouse pointer icon. Clicking this icon opens the main menu, where you can access settings or quit the application.

Default Settings

  • Default hotkey: + \
  • Default speed: 10 clicks per second

These settings can be easily changed in the Settings window.

Changing Settings

  1. Click the menu bar icon.
  2. Select "Settings" from the menu.
  3. In the Settings window, you can adjust the clicks per second using the input box and +/- buttons. Enter any positive number for your desired CPS.
  4. To change the hotkey, click the icon button next to the hotkey input. When recording, the pen icon will be replaced with "Recording...".
  5. Press your desired key combination (e.g., + \). As you press keys, they will appear in the boxes next to the button.
  6. Once you've pressed the full key combination, the recording stops automatically, and the key boxes will show your new hotkey.
  7. Click the "Save" button to apply your changes. The Settings window will close.
  8. Your new hotkey and speed are now active!

Clicking "Cancel" will close the window without saving changes.

Starting and Stopping Clicking

The only way to start and stop auto clicking is by using the hotkey you have set (default is + \). Simply press the entire key combination simultaneously.

When clicking is active, the menu bar icon will show a green dot (🟢) and the menu will display "Clicking". When inactive, it will show a circle (⭕️) and display "Stopped".

Note: You cannot start or stop clicking directly from the menu bar - you must use the hotkey combination.

Troubleshooting

App Won't Open

  • Make sure you've moved the app to your Applications folder
  • Check System Settings > Privacy & Security for any blocked permissions
  • Try restarting your computer

Hotkey Not Working

  • Verify Input Monitoring permission is enabled in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Ensure The AutoClicker is running and the menu bar icon is visible.
  • Check if another application might be using the same hotkey. Some apps allow you to view or change their hotkeys.
  • Try setting a different hotkey in the AutoClicker Settings window.
  • Restart the application from the menu bar by selecting "Quit" and then reopening it from Applications.
  • Remember: The hotkey is the only way to control clicking - you cannot start or stop clicking from the menu bar.

Clicking Not Working

  • Verify Accessibility permission is enabled in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Ensure The AutoClicker is running and the menu bar icon is visible.
  • Check if the hotkey successfully toggles the clicking state (look at the menu bar icon and menu).
  • Ensure the mouse cursor is over an area where clicking is registered by the operating system or the specific application you are using. Some applications might ignore clicks in certain areas.
  • Try restarting the application.
  • Make sure no other application is interfering with mouse control.

High CPU Usage

  • Reduce the clicks per second in Settings if your system becomes unresponsive.
  • Close other resource-intensive applications running on your system.
  • Restart the application.

Settings Window Does Not Appear or is Blank

  • Ensure you have granted both Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions.
  • Restart the application.
  • If the problem persists, try deleting the settings file (usually located in `~/Library/Application Support/The AutoClicker/settings.json`) and reopening the app. Note that this will reset all settings to default.

Advanced Usage & Tips

Running on Login

To make The AutoClicker start automatically when you log into your Mac:

  1. Go to System Settings > General > Login Items.
  2. Under "Open at Login", click the "+" button.
  3. Navigate to your Applications folder and select "The AutoClicker.app".
  4. Click "Add".

The AutoClicker will now start automatically in the menu bar whenever you log in.

Minimizing Interference

While the app is designed to be lightweight, very high click speeds can sometimes impact system responsiveness. If you experience lag, try reducing the speed.

Ensure you are using a hotkey combination that is unlikely to be used by other applications you frequently use simultaneously.

Custom Hotkey Strategies

Consider using less common key combinations involving multiple modifiers (, , , ) to avoid conflicts with other applications.

A combination like + + + \ is very unlikely to conflict with standard application shortcuts.
